First graders have been busy reading about animals in Skills, which is a part of our new CKLA curriculum. In this unit, students were introduced to informational text within the student reader. This was also their first time reading from a chapter book, and they’re really enjoying learning new things about animals! Some of the animals include: mandrills, chimps, reef sharks, puffins, finches, bobcats, garter snakes, and river otters.
We have also been learning about animals and their physical characteristics during science! Students are able to make connections between both subjects, increasing their engagement in their learning. Be sure to ask your child about some fun facts they’ve learned about these interesting animals!
