Hello Maquoketa Families,
Thank You for your patience over the past two snow days. As I’ve shared with you, in order to make these decisions our Transportation Director and myself drive our area roads and then collaborate with other area superintendents. We also reach out to the County Supervisor who oversees the gravel road conditions to see what their progress is on plowing and the condition of the roads. In addition, I receive information from the National Weather Service and attend webinars for superintendents that provide detailed information about the forecast in our specific location. These decisions are not made lightly and always with student and staff safety as our priority.
With this in mind, our buses will travel on hard surface roads only tomorrow, Thursday, January 11th. If you are a family who cannot get to the hard surface road, please contact Transportation Director, Scott Hansen in the morning and he will work to arrange alternate transportation for your student after our drivers return from their regular routes.
We are expecting another winter storm late Thursday and into Friday. I will be monitoring this closely with our team and will try to get any pertinent information to you as soon as possible as we realize this is important for your families.
A reminder that if we were to have four total snow days (two more in addition to the two we had this week), we will then begin using “virtual” learning days. I will be sharing more information about this by the end of the week so families are clear about what this looks like for all ages of students.
I also want to thank our transportation staff, custodians and maintenance staff who have been working throughout these storms to clear snow in parking lots and on the sidewalks to make these areas as safe as possible for everyone to return to school.
Please reach out if you have any questions.
With Care,
Tara Notz
Superintendent
