Dear Maquoketa Families, Staff, Coaches, Area Community Members, and Wrestling Teams,
Tonight, during the girls' Middle School wrestling meet at Maquoketa High School, a wrestler required emergency medical care following her match. Out of respect and concern for all involved, the meet was canceled to support the athletes, coaches, and spectators.
We would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to everyone for their kindness, patience, and support during and after the incident. Spectators responded with great respect and understanding as they exited the gym and as the meet was cancelled.
A special thank you to our staff and community members who took immediate action, including our Athletic Trainer for providing medical care, our Athletic Director for swiftly contacting EMS as well as the athlete’s coach and family members for continuously supporting the situation. In addition, thank you to the response of the EMS personnel and for their support of all students and families within our community.
Out of respect for the athlete and their family, any updates on the student’s recovery will be shared at their discretion.
Thank you for being part of a community that comes together in times of need.
Sincerely,
Tara Notz, Superintendent
Maquoketa Community School District
