Dear Maquoketa CSD Staff, Students and Families,
As the Superintendent of Maquoketa Community School District, I am writing to provide you with an important update regarding the recent recommendation to be made by our Facilities Committee.
After careful consideration of various factors, including student enrollment data, safety needs within our facilities, budget considerations and the goal of providing high-quality learning spaces, the Facilities Committee voted on November 13, 2023 to recommend to the School Board the closure of Cardinal Elementary. This recommendation is part of our ongoing commitment to ensure that our educational environment aligns with the evolving needs of our students and the community.
During the school board meeting on November 20, 2023 the board had an open discussion regarding this topic and a public hearing was scheduled for Wednesday, December 6th at 6:30 pm at Cardinal Elementary to gather additional public comment. In addition, we will have tours of Cardinal from 5:30 pm-6:30 pm for anyone who would like to view the building. Your input is crucial to us, and we encourage your active engagement in this process.
We appreciate your understanding and collaboration as we navigate this important decision together. Our commitment to providing the best possible educational experience for our students is our focus and we believe that, through thoughtful consideration and community involvement this will be a positive experience for all.
Thank you for your ongoing support of the Maquoketa Community School District.
Sincerely,
Tara Notz
Superintendent
Maquoketa Community School District
