Dear Maquoketa Families, Staff, Community Members and Supporters,
During our boys basketball game on Tuesday, December 4, 2023 against Cascade, Maquoketa player Ty Hinz hit his head diving for a basketball. Due to the unknown severity of the injury, the game was canceled to support all players, coaches and spectators.
The Maquoketa Administrators, Staff and the family of Ty would like to extend a heartfelt thank you for all of the support and kindness that was felt during and following the incident. All spectators were extremely respectful as they were asked to leave the gym and when the game was canceled. This was extremely helpful in getting Ty the medical care he needed.
In addition, thank you to all of the staff and community members who took action immediately including our Athletic Trainer, Athletic Director, Coaches, Custodial Staff, Officials and health care professionals in the crowd who all ensured the focus was on Ty and his care.
As a Maquoketa CSD family, we especially want to thank the Cascade coaches, players and families for their understanding and support as well as for reaching out throughout the incident to offer positive thoughts to the family and to our players and coaches. During times like this it’s heartwarming to have everyone come together for what matters most, the well being and care of our students!
Ty’s family would like to share that he is at home recovering and at this time is doing well.
