During the month of March, Cardinal Elementary celebrated Read Across America in many exciting ways. We kicked off the week with fun dress-up days, including a day in our PJ's and wearing our favorite hats and colors!
A week prior to the celebration, we invited families into the building for Read Across Cardinal Family Night. Those who attended enjoyed a free book, stuffed animal, tattoos, bookmarks, cookies & juice, buttons, and had the opportunity to sign up for a library card through the Maquoketa Public Library. We are grateful to the Jackson County Grade Level Reading Campaign for supplying the free books and to the Maquoketa Public Library for sharing information about the Summer Reading Program and helping kids sign up!
We also want to recognize the Maquoketa Education Association (MEA) for supplying a grant that covered the delicious treats. It truly takes many hands to provide events like this, and we are fortunate to live in a community that supports our students in many ways including fostering a love for reading!
On March 19th, Joanne Evans from the Jackson County Grade Level Reading Campaign arranged for a group of readers to come and share some of their favorite books with our students. Once again, students enjoyed a treat from the MEA grant.
Let’s continue to ignite this love for reading in all our students!
Thank you for the continued support from our Maquoketa families as well!
