Maquoketa High School

2 HOSA members presented a check for $279 to Hospice of Jackson County employees. HOSA members raised the money from their fall blood drive.

Students from the High School Vocal Department participated in the Dorian Honor Choir Festival at Luther College on Jan 10th & 11th. These students sang with over 900 other students from schools in Iowa, Illinois, Wisconsin, Minnesota and Missouri.

Students in English 9/10 played a name game today in order to guess classmates' names once the sheet was dropped on the count of three. This activitiy pomoted social emotional learning in the classroom!

Sports Literature students participated in team building activities today in order to get to know each other better.

Maquoketa girls bowling team placed 3rd in the Al Jordan tournament in Muscatine today. Senior Hadley Ihrig got 3rd in individual 🎳

Intro to Business class wrapped up the semester with another successful food truck project!! Students wrote business plans, designed logos and trucks and created delicious menus! The top 6 were put on display for all to vote on!

Intro to Building trades created an end table for their final project.

Two HOSA students delivered holiday decorations to the residents of Clover Ridge on Friday.

Ms. Kay's and Mr. Hartman room went to the Happy Joes pizza party today and had a great time!

As we enter the winter season, we want to remind families that our general threshold for canceling school due to cold is when wind chill temperatures fall between -25 to -30°F. At those levels, the National Weather Service typically issues a Wind Chill Warning.

Looking ahead to tomorrow morning, temperatures are forecasted to be around -14°F at 6:00 a.m. , so we do not anticipate any delays or cancellations at this time.

Students typically remain indoors for recess when temperatures are below 0°F, but we still ask that all students come to school dressed warmly, especially those riding the bus. Having proper winter gear is important in case of any unforeseen delays.

The student senate sponsored food drive will begin on Monday, November 17 and last until Friday, November 21. We are asking for non-expired canned goods and boxed food that will be donated for the high school backpack program to be brought to Mrs. Raker's classroom (113). This will be a GST competition.

Volleyball players had their year-end banquet last night. Congratulations to our senior captains as well as our three all conference award winners!
