Visitor Aware

Dear Maquoketa CSD Families,

We are excited to announce the implementation of the Visitor Aware system as part of our ongoing commitment to student and staff safety. This new visitor management system, funded through the Iowa State Safety Grant, will enhance security across all Maquoketa CSD buildings and is an integral component of our district’s comprehensive safety plan.

Beginning January 21, 2025, all visitors entering student areas of our buildings, including volunteers, parents, contractors, AEA staff, and others, will need to follow the process outlined below:

  • ID Scanning Requirement: All visitors will present a valid, government-issued photo ID (e.g., driver’s license) at the front office. The ID will be scanned to check against the National Sex Offender Registry and any applicable watch lists.

  • Emergency Accountability: For safety purposes, high school students attending classes in other district buildings (e.g., Education Leadership programs) will also scan their IDs to ensure accurate records of everyone present during emergencies.

  • Visitor Badges: Upon successful scanning, visitors will receive a printed badge, granting access to classroom and student areas.

  • Monthly ID Scan: ID scanning will occur once per month. After the initial scan each month, the system will recognize returning visitors using facial identification, expediting the check-in process.

This system ensures that we can verify visitor identities, enhance emergency preparedness, and provide a safe environment for our students and staff. Visitor Aware is a secure platform, and all data collected is encrypted, stored securely, and used solely for safety purposes.

Thank you for your cooperation as we implement this important safety measure. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact your building principal or the district office. Together, we can create a safer and more secure learning environment for all.

Sincerely,

Tara Notz
Superintendent
Maquoketa Community School District
