On Thursday, some of Ms. Liz's students from last year were able to come help put soil on the 2nd generation of Pumpkin Jack. He will look a bit different when the preschoolers return on Monday! 😊🎃 The lid was removed, as Jack was plenty decomposed at this point, and soil was placed on top. THANK YOU to the kindergarteners for their help. 😄Hopefully he will sprout in the next few weeks so we can watch the pumpkin life cycle continue on! 🌱
Please see our CWNK (https://youtu.be/zieo4l858GE) newscast for a look at what's coming up at Cardinal Elementary. Can't wait to see the kids tomorrow!
Kids in the Briggs art club are "painting" with food coloring on vanilla and chocolate cakes. It was a messy but delicious job. Lots of fun.
Cardinal Elementary and Briggs Elementary Talented and Gifted students in grades 1st through 5th are partnering with Hurstville Interpretive Center in Jackson County, Iowa. Students will be learning about native Jackson County animals and looking at connections with their populations throughout history. Cardinal students will focus on deer (grades 1-2), while Briggs students will focus on eagles (grades 3-5). By the end of the unit, students will be able to identify, explain, and evaluate the impact of different limiting factors on the population of organisms. These factors include food, water, shelter, predation, human interference, changes in immigration and emigration, disease, and reproduction.
Check out our kindergarten students practicing their "word chaining" as they continue building phonics skills in Mrs. Gavin's room.
We ended the week with some pretty crazy SOCKS! Thank you Cardinal families for helping students prepare for an exciting week of celebrating our love for reading! We enjoyed dressing up throughout the week and seeing so many families on Wednesday and Thursday as we welcomed families during our parent-teacher conferences. We always enjoy this time of celebrating our students' progress and getting to know families even more. Enjoy the extra day with your child(ren) on Friday as we do not have school tomorrow. We look forward to seeing them back in the building on Monday!

Hello Maquoketa Families--
Just wanted to send out a quick reminder that Parent Teacher Conferences are next Wednesday, March 6th from 2:00-6:00 and Thursday, March 7th from 2:00-8:00. This is an important time for you to connect with your child(ren)’s teacher and discuss how their learning has progressed this school year.
To sign up for conferences this year, remember to use our scheduling tool, Meet the Teacher- https://maquoketaschools.meettheteacher.com/. You will need your students’ name(s) and birth dates. Here is a short guide to help you book in Meet the Teacher.
Reminders-
1) HS and MS- HS and MS will be hosting in-person conferences on Wednesday, March 6th and virtual conferences on Thursday, March 7th. This is to ensure a smooth transition throughout the night. MS and HS will have 10 minute conference slots. On Meet the Teacher, you will be given the option for each on both days. Be sure to check the correct button (In Person on Wednesday or Video Call on Thursday) according to the day that you picked. Again this is to ensure a smooth transition through the night so our teachers have the opportunity to meet with all parents who have signed up on a timely basis.
2) Cardinal and Briggs- Conferences will run for 20 minutes. In person conferences are encouraged so please select the "In-Person" option under Meet the Teacher. Cardinal families are encouraged to bring their students to their conferences and Briggs families are invited to student-led conferences in all classrooms this spring.
If you have any questions or challenges in scheduling your conferences, please contact the office at your child’s building, and they will be happy to add appointments on your behalf. We look forward to meeting with you to talk about your child’s learning experience.
Yours sincerely,
Maquoketa Administrative Team
