Mrs. Johnson's class learned about wind and water erosion. They conducted experiments to prove their hypotheses on how erosion affects structures and the land. We saw first hand how planting grass helps prevent erosion.

Jenna from the Farm Bureau taught 2nd grade students a lesson on chickens and eggs. Students did a break test by holding an egg in their palm and squeezing as hard as they could. They discovered the egg didn't break. They also did a candle light test to a couple eggs to see if they were fertilized and had a chick in them. Jenna explained what to look for during the candle test to see if it was fertilized. After the lesson, the kids were able to peel a hard boiled egg and see the different parts of an egg and eat it! πŸ₯š πŸ£πŸ“

This award goes to a staff member that helps the building progress in the area of academics by supporting staff and students as we set goals and continuously work towards those goals. Mr. Gavin and the Maquoketa High School Physics students put on a WONDERFUL event Friday night! πŸš—πŸ‘©πŸΌβ€πŸ”¬β€οΈπŸ‘¨πŸ»β€πŸ”¬πŸ€“ It was full of science concepts and demonstrations for children through the use of fun activities and games. Such a fantastic opportunity for older students to interact with younger students and their families in our district (and beyond!). Hello Cardinal Elementary Families, I hope that you have enjoyed the weekend and are ready for the week ahead. I am certainly excited to see some spring weather any time soon! Please see the CWNK news report (https://youtu.be/yWO3DOQeP9o) for what will be happening at Cardinal Elementary this week. Highlights include: -Monday we have special glasses purchased for every student to view the solar eclipse (please refer to Superinten Notz's Letter shared on Friday) -Tuesday we will have the return of Challenge to Change for Yoga in the classroom (students are encouraged to wear comfortable clothing) -Wednesday we will announce LiM awards for Habit 6: High Hopes (academic success) and Count on Me (leadership success) -Wednesday we will also have a Fire Drill in the morning -Thursday students will all ride the bus to Ohnward Performing Arts Center in Maquoketa for a sneak peek of the High School musical, Sponge Bob Have a great week!
